If I upgrade from Pro to Max, how does the pricing calculation work for the remaining time?

I've been on Pro for about 10 days this month and now I want to switch to Max. I can't find any info on whether you get charged the full Max price or if it prorates based on your remaining Pro time and you just pay the difference. Has anyone actually upgraded before? I'd love to know exactly what shows up on the payment screen.

Hi, this is the admin. To get right to it: when you upgrade from Pro to Max, you won't be charged the full Max fee — instead, the system calculates the remaining time on your current plan and charges you only the difference. According to Claude's official customer support guidelines, upgrading from Pro to Max applies your new plan right away. Your billing is handled through proration, which means it factors in the unused portion of your current Pro payment for this cycle, and you're charged only that difference. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. If you're upgrading from an annual Pro plan to Max and your remaining annual Pro balance exceeds the Max price, the overage isn't refunded — instead it becomes account credit that you can use toward future charges. 2. If you subscribed through Google Play (Android app), the process works differently. In that case, the full new plan fee is charged upfront, and your remaining Pro value is reflected by pushing your next billing date forward by a few days. 3. The exact charge amount varies per person depending on your billing cycle start date, remaining days, and whether you're paying via web or app. Anthropic doesn't publicly disclose the detailed calculation logic. When you tap the upgrade button, you'll see a confirmation screen showing the exact charge before you complete the payment — you can review it there and proceed. So if you've used about ten days of your plan, there's a good chance the charge will be the difference after deducting that time. That said, the exact calculation details aren't publicly documented, so I can't guarantee complete certainty.
