Anyone who's used both Claude and ChatGPT for coding, which one is better?

I was using ChatGPT Plus, but heard a lot about Claude Code so I signed up for Pro as well and have been trying both. I don't notice much difference with simple scripts or bug fixes, but when it comes to refactoring actual larger projects or working across multiple files, is there a noticeable difference? I can't afford to pay for both, so I'm trying to narrow it down to one. I'm curious about what situations each one feels better for.

Hello, this is the administration. To conclude first, it's natural to feel that the perceptual difference between the two tools isn't large for tasks with narrow scope like simple scripts or bug fixes, and as the scope expands like refactoring across multiple files, the structural differences between tools tend to become more apparent. The reason is closer to tool design differences rather than the superiority of the models themselves. Claude Code is an agent tool that operates in the terminal, allowing you to directly explore the entire codebase, read and modify multiple files at once, and if needed, run commands or tests on your own. Also, an advantage is that if you write rules and structure in a project memory file like CLAUDE.md, you don't have to re-explain the context each time. On the other hand, the general ChatGPT chat interface often requires you to copy and paste code directly, so as the number of files increases, the burden on you to maintain context increases. However, this is ultimately a difference in tool design, and since there are no official comparison statistics on actual result quality published, it's difficult to definitively determine absolute superiority. If you're planning to settle on just one, I recommend judging based on the following: 1. Whether the work unit is a single file or spans the entire project. 2. Whether you're familiar with terminal and git workflows, or whether a chat-focused copy-and-paste approach is more comfortable. 3. Whether it's burdensome to explain the same project rules (coding style, directory structure, etc.) each time. Detailed comparisons are organized in the guide below. https://usingclaude.com/ko/guides/models/claude-vs-chatgpt
