Is the Claude 6-month free subscription event real?

Anonymous7/24/2026· Views 147
I saw an ad on Instagram saying you get Claude Pro free for 6 months, so I clicked on it, but then it asked me to enter my email and card info first. I've never seen that promotion on Anthropic's official homepage, so I'm wondering — do they normally run events like this? Or should I just assume it's a phishing scam? Has anyone else seen something similar?

    That's the tool schema loading (not a search call) — I already have the results I need. Let me compose the final answer now. {"confidence":"medium","notes":"Web search confirmed: phishing campaigns impersonating Anthropic to steal payment information have been reported (mailguard.com.au). Official promotions (open-source maintainer programs, referral events, etc.) only run through official links like claude.ai/referral/, and the '6 months free' event via Instagram ads with immediate card info requests doesn't appear in official announcements. Since this isn't based on official platform documentation, confidence is medium.","answer":"Hello, this is the admin. To cut to the chase, your suspicion about this being phishing is correct. When you click on an Instagram ad and immediately see a page asking you to enter your email and card information, that's a classic phishing pattern. Anthropic has not made any official announcement about running a major event offering '6 months free' through Instagram ads instead of official channels like claude.ai or anthropic.com. There have actually been reported cases of phishing campaigns impersonating the Anthropic brand to steal payment information. For reference, any promotions that Anthropic actually runs (like free access for open-source contributors, referral events, etc.) are only announced through official links starting with claude.ai/referral/ or through notifications in your claude.ai account. We don't ask for card information upfront through third-party ad links. If you see similar ads in the future, here's what to check: 1. Verify that the link address is actually under the claude.ai or anthropic.com domain. 2. Before entering any card or login information, log directly into claude.ai to check your account notifications and pricing page to see if the same event is listed there. 3. If you've already entered your card information, contact your card company right away to block the charge and change your password as well. We've put together a detailed guide below about normal subscriptions and billing questions."}
