Can Claude generate images? I can't find the option anywhere.

I thought Claude had an image generation feature like ChatGPT, where you can ask it to draw a picture, but I can't find that button anywhere no matter how hard I look. I checked both the web and the app, but I only get text responses and it doesn't seem to generate images at all. Does anyone know if I'm just missing a setting or if image generation isn't actually available in Claude? I'm also wondering if it's a feature you unlock with a paid plan upgrade.

Hi, it's the admin. To cut to the chase, you're not missing a setting—Claude simply doesn't have the ability to generate images from text like ChatGPT does. Upgrading to a paid plan won't give you this feature either. Here's why: Claude is built on a language model, while ChatGPT's image generation uses a completely different type of AI called a diffusion model. Anthropic hasn't integrated this kind of diffusion-based image generation into Claude yet. That's why you won't find an image generation button anywhere on the web or app—that's completely normal. What Claude can do with visuals, though, is this: 1. Upload and analyze images. You can upload photos, screenshots, graphs, and Claude will read and explain what's in them. But it can't create new images that don't exist. 2. Create code-based visuals with Artifacts. Claude can generate SVGs, charts, diagrams, and simple interactive screens using code—but not raster images like photographs. 3. Connect external image generation models via MCP (Model Context Protocol). You can hook up separate models like Stable Diffusion or FLUX through MCP, then request images within Claude conversations and see the results. But this approach requires extra setup, so it might be a bit cumbersome for new users. To sum it up: neither the web nor the app supports text-to-image generation as a built-in feature, and upgrading to a paid plan won't solve that. If you really need images, I'd suggest using MCP integration or a separate image generation tool alongside Claude.
