Anyone tried Claude's cowork feature? What exactly does it do?

Anonymous8/28/2026· Views 67
I noticed Claude app recently got a new feature called cowork, but it hasn't shown up on my end yet. Is it basically the same as the projects feature, or is it more of a collaboration tool where multiple people can view the same chat room together? Also wondering if it varies by plan. If anyone's used it, let me know what actually changes.

Hi, it's the admin here. To cut straight to the point: Cowork is neither a project feature nor a shared team chat room. Let me explain what Cowork is first. It's basically the agent feature that was already in Claude Code—where tasks are executed step-by-step on their own—but expanded beyond coding into general work. It reads files in folders and connects to external services (connectors), handles multiple steps, and gives you back the finished result. Unlike a regular chat where you ask a question and get an answer right away, it's more like you hand off work and check the results later. You might confuse it with the Projects feature, but they serve different purposes. Projects is a workspace for organizing files, links, and guidelines (basically a filing tool), while Cowork is the execution engine that actually does work inside those projects. So you can actually run Cowork within a Project. As for whether it's a team chat room where multiple people view things together: no, it isn't. Cowork is fundamentally a personal tool, and the session itself isn't designed to be shared in real time with others (though Team/Enterprise plans can share results as live artifacts). Regarding which plans support it: it's not available on the Free plan—only paid plans like Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. The desktop app has it across all paid tiers, and web and mobile support are rolling out gradually, so if you don't see it yet, you might not be in the rollout wave or it's not your turn yet. The official rollout timeline hasn't been announced, so it's uncertain. If you want to dig deeper into how it differs from chat as you try it out, I've written a detailed guide here: https://usingclaude.com/ko/guides/features/claude-chat-vs-cowork-when-to-use
