I set up push notifications in the Claude app, but I'm not getting alerts when responses complete

Anonymous9/18/2026· Views 60
On iPhone, I started a long task in the background, but the completion notification isn't showing up. I checked settings—notification permissions are on and the in-app notification toggle is enabled, but it's not working. On the web version I get notifications when I switch tabs, but the app isn't sending anything at all. Is push notification not supported in the app, or is it just me? If anyone else has experienced this, I'd really appreciate knowing how you fixed it.

Hi, this is a moderator. To cut to the chase, the completion notification feature is officially supported in the app, but due to iOS limitations, there may be cases where notifications don't come through even with the in-app toggle enabled. Here are some additional things you should check. The Claude app is designed to send push notifications to your phone when a long-running task finishes or when your confirmation is needed. As you mentioned, both the in-app notification toggle and iOS system notification permissions need to be enabled, but if you're still not receiving notifications, I recommend checking the following in order: 1. Double-check your notification permissions in the Settings app. Banner, lock screen, and sound settings can be individually disabled, so you might have just 'Allow' enabled while specific options are turned off. 2. Check Focus Mode (Do Not Disturb mode). When Focus is enabled, notifications from apps not on the allow list are silently filtered. 3. If 'Background App Refresh' for the app is disabled in Settings, iOS may terminate the app process before the task completes, preventing notifications from being generated in the first place. 4. Update the app to the latest version and try logging out and back in once. There have been cases where notification registration tokens get corrupted and are resolved by re-logging in. Among these, Background App Refresh is especially easy to overlook, so I'd recommend checking that first. If you continue not receiving notifications, it could be a bug in the app itself, so reaching out to Claude Support is also an option. Since the specific conditions for when notifications are triggered aren't detailed in official documentation, I apologize that I can't give you a 100% definitive answer.
