What time exactly does Claude's usage limit reset?

Anonymous9/20/2026· Views 72
I'm on the Pro plan and hit my limit, so I've been waiting a few hours. But I'm confused about the exact reset interval — is it based on my billing date or when I first signed up? It unlocked in the afternoon yesterday, but it's still locked today, so I'm not sure what the logic is. Does anyone know how to check when your limit resets?

Hi, this is the admin. To cut to the chase: Claude rate limits don't reset on your billing date or signup date — instead, they automatically unlock 5 hours after you hit the limit. Here's how it works: 1. Session limit (5 hours): When Pro users hit their limit while chatting, they need to wait 5 hours from that moment to use Claude again. The error message shows exactly when it'll reset — it'll say something like "5-hour limit reached - resets [time]", so that's the most accurate way to check. 2. Weekly limit: Pro and Max plans have a weekly limit on top of the 5-hour session limit, separate from each other. This weekly limit resets at a fixed day and time that's set per account. If it unlocked yesterday afternoon but is still locked today, there are two possibilities. One is that you hit the limit at different times each day (since the 5-hour window is based on when you actually hit the limit, not a fixed time), so yesterday's and today's unlock times differ. The other is that your session limit did unlock, but your weekly limit is already exhausted — in that case, check if you're seeing a weekly limit error message instead of a session limit one. The exact number of minutes left is shown on the error screen itself, and there's no official formula we provide for calculating it. I've put together a detailed guide on how limits and resets work, plus tips to reduce how fast you use them: https://usingclaude.com/ko/pricing/plans/claude-usage-limits-guide
