I'm using Claude for the first time—what should I start with?

Anonymous10/1/2026· Views 31
I used only ChatGPT before, but lately people around me have been saying Claude is better for writing and coding, so I signed up. But when I actually opened it, there are multiple models and menus like Projects and Artifacts, so I'm not sure how to use them or where to start. I'm also not sure how far I can go with the free plan. Which features should someone new to Claude try first? I'd also like to know what's definitely different between Claude and ChatGPT.

Hello, this is the admin team. To get straight to the point, you don't need to learn all the menus at first. Just start by asking the same kinds of questions you normally ask ChatGPT, and that's plenty. Here's the order we recommend for first-time users. 1. Start with a regular chat. Try familiar tasks like polishing writing, explaining code, or summarizing documents, and you'll quickly notice how the answer style differs. You can leave the model selection at its default. 2. When making a request, spell out the background and the form of result you want. For example, just noting who the text is for, how long it should be, or what tone to use can greatly improve the results. 3. If your output is something like a document, web page, or simple tool, try Artifacts. The result is shown separately next to the chat, which makes it easy to revise it repeatedly. 4. If you keep pasting the same materials or instructions over and over, that's the time to try Projects. It's a feature that keeps your materials and instructions in one place for repeated work. Models are generally divided into lightweight and fast, balanced, and highest-performance tiers, and higher-performance models tend to consume more usage. Which models and features are available for free, and what the usage limits are, can change over time, and the official figures are not fixed. For accurate information, please check the plan details in the app or support.claude.com. The differences from ChatGPT don't mean one is better across the board. They show up in the model's answer style, ways of working such as Artifacts and Projects, and the product lineup, such as Claude Code for coding. The quickest way to judge which one suits you is to ask the same question in both places.
