Claude CodeAnswered

What's the difference between Claude and Claude Code? Are they the same thing?

Anonymous10/14/2026· Views 5
I've only tried chatting with Claude on the web, but people around me say Claude Code is great. The names are so similar that I assumed it was just another screen of the same service. I searched, but the explanations are all over the place and I'm still confused. Is it worth it for someone who can't code? Also, do I have to pay for a separate plan, or does it work under the same subscription? If anyone knows, please let me know.

Hello, this is the staff team. To answer up front, they are not different screens of the same service. Both use the same Claude model, but they are separate tools with different ways of working, and pricing is guided so that you can use both with one paid subscription. Here is the difference. 1. Claude (web and app): A chat tool where you ask questions in the chat window and get answers. It suits writing, summarizing, translating, analysis, and similar tasks. 2. Claude Code: An agentic tool that directly reads and edits files in a folder on your computer and even runs commands. You can use it in the terminal, in editors like VS Code, or in the desktop app. The biggest difference is that it doesn't stop at giving you an answer; it carries out the work itself. You asked whether it's meaningful for people who can't code. It is possible. Besides writing code, it's also used to organize many files at once or to batch-edit documents. However, since it works directly on your files, you need to get used to using the terminal and approving permissions, and at first it's recommended that you back up important files. If your use is mainly questions and writing, as it is now, web chat alone is often enough. Here is what you should know about pricing. 1. Claude Code is included in paid subscriptions like Pro and Max, so you don't need to pay for a separate subscription. 2. Web chat and Claude Code share the same usage limit, so if you do a lot of coding work, you'll have less room left for chat. 3. Instead of a subscription, you can connect an API key and pay per usage. 4. I'm not certain whether the free plan is available or what the detailed conditions of each plan are, since they may change. Please check the official pricing page (claude.com/pricing) before signing up.
