Is Claude Code included in my subscription or do I pay separately?

I'm trying to start using Claude Code from the terminal, but I'm confused about the pricing. If I subscribe to Pro, can I just use it, or is it charged separately like the API?

Hi, this is the operations team. Both are possible, which can be confusing — there are two paths. Path 1 — Use via subscription (recommended for most individuals) If you have a Pro or Max subscription, you can use Claude Code at no extra charge. But subscription limits are shared between chat and Claude Code. Since Claude Code reads codebases intensively, it uses a lot of quota, so Pro limits can get tight if you use it heavily — in that case Max is the right choice. Path 2 — Use via API key (pay-as-you-go) This is where you fund credits in the developer console and pay based on actual usage. It's good if you want to separate costs on a company account or if your usage is unpredictable. In summary: For personal learning and side projects, subscription (path 1) is simpler. For team use or unpredictable usage, consider the API (path 2). We've covered when each path is cheaper with simulations and detailed comparisons in the guide below. https://usingclaude.com/ko/pricing/plans/claude-code-pricing-guide
