According to a notice posted on X by Anthropic's official account @ClaudeDevs on August 30, 2026, "Starting September 14, we're permanently raising standard weekly limits in Claude Code by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. Until then, the current 50% increase will be in place."
What the Announcement Means
The announcement describes a two-stage change to the standard weekly limit (weekly limit — the total usage allowance that resets on a weekly basis) granted to Claude Code users. Currently, a temporary 50% increase is in effect. Starting September 14, that temporary measure ends and is replaced by a permanent 25% increase over the original baseline. The plans named are Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise.
What It Means for Users
Until September 14, users can continue using the current expanded limit (a 50% increase); after that date the 25% increase takes over. This is not the promotion simply ending and limits reverting to where they were — the standard limit itself is being reset to a level 25% above the old baseline. Users planning their usage should note that the available limit changes around September 14.
A 25% Raise That Lowers Your Limit — Anthropic's Own 17% Figure
This was the first thing users pointed out. The 25% figure is measured against the original baseline before the temporary boost, but the limit people are actually working with today sits 50% above that baseline. The two numbers use different reference points.
Anthropic addressed this directly in a follow-up post in the same thread, stating that compared to today this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code, and adding that it is preparing changes to give users more visibility and control over their usage. That reduction figure comes from the company itself, not from third-party estimates.
Normalizing the original baseline to 100, today's limit is 150 and from September 14 it becomes 125. (These numbers are an illustration of the ratio only — Anthropic does not publish limits as absolute values.)
What Is Not Changing
The announcement covers weekly limits only. It makes no mention of the five-hour session limit, and says nothing about pricing or plan structure changing. Eligibility is Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise; the Free plan does not include Claude Code.
For how the limit system works and how to check or reset it, see the usage limits guide; for plan-by-plan cost comparison, see the Claude Code pricing guide. For the earlier history of this promotion, see the August 31 extension.
Details Not Disclosed
Per-plan limit figures remain undisclosed. Anthropic has never published usage limits as absolute token counts, and this announcement included no figures either. Whether the change applies differently across plans, and the specifics and timing of the promised usage-visibility improvements, have also not been announced.
As of this writing the confirmed official source is the @ClaudeDevs post on X; we could not confirm whether Anthropic's related support article has been updated with the September 14 date. Check Anthropic's official channels for the latest.
