Anthropic's official developer account on X, @ClaudeDevs, announced on July 9 (local time) that it has reset usage limits for all users. The announcement was a single sentence — "We've reset 5-hour and weekly rate limits for all users." — meaning both the 5-hour and weekly counters have been cleared.
What exactly was reset?
Usage on Claude's paid plans is governed by two layers of limits: the 5-hour limit (a short-term usage window that renews every 5 hours) and the weekly limit (a total cap applied over a rolling 7 days). This announcement means both counters were set back to zero. If you were blocked by a limit just before the reset, you can simply start using Claude again — no action required.
The scope is, in the announcement's own words, all users, and there is nothing to opt into or configure. It is also worth distinguishing that this is a reset of the usage counters, not an increase of the limit amounts themselves.
What this means for Fable 5 users
The reset arrived just before the end of Claude Fable 5's subscription-included window. The currently announced deadline is July 12 at 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time (July 13, 3:59:59 PM KST). During the included window, Fable 5 can be used within up to 50% of your weekly usage limit — so with the weekly counter cleared, the headroom for using Fable 5 in the remaining days is effectively restored as well.
If you had already burned through your weekly limit earlier this week and could not try Fable 5 further, this is a chance to do so before the deadline. Terms may change, so please check the model notice at the top of this site and Anthropic's official channels for the latest status.
No reason was given for the reset
The official announcement consists of that single sentence and does not include any background or reasoning. Some outlets have offered interpretations based on the timing, but Anthropic has not stated anything officially, so this article reports only what has been confirmed.
How to check your usage
You can check your current usage and limits in claude.ai under Settings > Usage. The screen shows how much of the 5-hour and weekly windows you have consumed, so you can also verify there that the reset has been applied to your account.
