You can use Claude right in your web browser with no install, or install it as a desktop app on Mac and Windows, or as a mobile app on iOS and Android. This guide explains where and how to get Claude, and how the web, desktop, and mobile versions differ, based on official information.
First: use it on the web, no install
The fastest way is to use Claude on the web with nothing to install. Go to claude.ai in your browser, sign up (Google account or email), and start chatting. No download is required, and you can use it on the free plan. If you are new, try the web first, then consider installing an app once you use it regularly.
Desktop app (Mac & Windows)
Get the desktop app from the official download page, claude.com/download. Versions are available for macOS and Windows, and the download itself is free. Free-plan accounts can use the app too.
After installing, sign in with the same account you use at claude.ai and your chats, projects, and memory sync across devices. The desktop app adds conveniences the browser does not have, such as staying in your dock/taskbar, a quick-entry shortcut to summon Claude from anywhere, and desktop extensions that connect to local tools. Some automation and advanced features may depend on your plan, device, or OS, so check the official download page for the latest requirements.
Mobile app (iOS & Android)
The Claude mobile app is available on both iOS and Android. The claude.com/download page links to each store, or you can search "Claude" in the App Store (iPhone/iPad) and Google Play (Android). Sign in with the same account on mobile and your chats sync.
Browser & office extensions
Beyond the apps, extensions are available. According to the official download page, there are a Chrome extension and extensions for Excel, PowerPoint, and Slack — handy when you want Claude inside the tools you already use.
For developers: Claude Code
If you need a tool to delegate coding work to Claude from your terminal, Claude Code is separate. Its installation differs from the regular apps, so see the Claude Code installation guide.
Download safely: official sources only
Only get Claude apps from official sources (claude.com/download or the official app stores). Avoid installers from torrents, unofficial mirrors, or unknown sites, as they pose security risks.
