First: use it on the web, no install
The fastest way is to use Claude on the web with nothing to install. Go to claude.ai in your browser, sign up (Google account or email), and start chatting. No download is required, and you can use it on the free plan. If you are new, try the web first, then consider installing an app once you use it regularly.
Desktop app (Mac & Windows)
Get the desktop app from the official download page, claude.com/download. Versions are available for macOS and Windows, and the download itself is free. Free-plan accounts can use the app too.
After installing, sign in with the same account you use at claude.ai and your chats, projects, and memory sync across devices. The desktop app adds conveniences the browser does not have, such as staying in your dock/taskbar, a quick-entry shortcut to summon Claude from anywhere, and desktop extensions that connect to local tools. Per the official download page, the desktop app now bundles regular Chat together with Claude Cowork (an agentic workspace for non-coding tasks) and Claude Code (for developers) in one app — Cowork is available on paid plans (Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise), and since July 2026 it has been rolling out in beta on web and mobile as well. On Windows, Cowork requires the latest version of the app. Some automation and advanced features may depend on your plan, device, or OS, so check the official download page for the latest requirements.
Mobile app (iOS & Android)
The Claude mobile app is available on both iOS and Android. The claude.com/download page links to each store, or you can search "Claude" in the App Store (iPhone/iPad) and Google Play (Android). Sign in with the same account on mobile and your chats sync.
Browser & office extensions
Beyond the apps, extensions are available. According to the official download page, there are a Chrome extension and a Slack extension; for Microsoft Office, you can use the Claude for Microsoft 365 add-ins. These cover Excel, PowerPoint, and Word (generally available) plus Outlook (beta), and carry context across apps within one session (paid plans) — handy when you want Claude inside the tools you already use.
For developers: Claude Code
