If you've already installed Claude's mobile app, this guide goes beyond just tapping the icon to open a chat. It covers launching Claude in seconds with widgets, talking to it hands-free, and connecting it directly to your Messages, Calendar, and health data. Working through it takes about 15–20 minutes and makes Claude noticeably faster and more convenient to use on your phone.

What you need before you start
Claude's mobile app has minimum OS requirements on iOS and Android, and some features covered here are limited to specific plans or regions.
- iOS requires iOS 17.0 or later to install the app, while the Lock Screen, Control Center, Action Button, and App Intent features require iOS 18 or later.
- Android requires Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later.
- If you haven't installed the app yet, search "Claude by Anthropic" on the App Store or Google Play first (installation itself isn't covered in this guide).
- Health data integration — Health Connect on Android and the equivalent on iOS — is a beta feature limited to Pro or Max plans in the US region.
- In some US states, app store age-verification rules restrict new sign-ups and logins for accounts under 18 years old.
Quick terms to know
- Dictation — turns your spoken words into text that fills the prompt box.
- Voice mode — a real-time, two-way spoken conversation with Claude, without converting to text first.
- Widget — a small button on your home screen that launches an action without opening the app first.
- App Intent — the connector that lets iOS system features like Siri, Spotlight search, and the Share Sheet call Claude directly.
- Shortcuts — Apple's Shortcuts app, used to pre-build a custom Claude action, like "summarize this text."
- Action Button — the iPhone's side button, which can be set to launch a chosen action with a long press.
- Health Connect — Google's Android hub app that pools health data from multiple apps in one place.
Launch Claude from your home screen with widgets
Adding Claude's widget to your home screen lets you start a new chat, take a photo, or use voice input without opening the app first.
Add the widget on iOS
- Long-press an empty spot on your Home Screen or Today View.
- Go into Edit widgets and search for "Claude" to add it.
- Tapping the widget lets you start a new conversation, open dictation mode, or take a photo for instant analysis.
Add the widget on Android
- Long-press an empty area on your home screen.
- Tap Widgets from the menu and find "Claude."
- Drag it into place, and resize by dragging the edges if needed.
The Android widget has three buttons: a chat button (spark icon) for a new conversation, a camera button to capture and share an image, and a microphone button for voice input. Success looks like the widget appearing on your home screen and opening a chat the moment you tap it. Keep in mind that widget interactions still count toward your regular usage limits.
Talking to Claude — dictation vs. voice mode
The key difference is that dictation is one-way — it only converts speech to text — while voice mode is a genuine two-way spoken conversation with Claude.
Dictation is triggered by the microphone icon next to the chat input field. Speak your prompt and it's automatically transcribed; tap the arrow icon to send it, or the X to cancel. It's available on every plan — Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise — and you can change the recognition language, including Korean, by tapping your initials in the top right and choosing "Speech Input Language." Once your speech is transcribed, the audio recording is automatically deleted and isn't used for training.
Voice mode is still in beta but available on every plan, on the web and in both the iOS and Android apps. Tap the sound-wave icon next to the input field, pick a voice, and the conversation begins — you can freely switch between text and voice within the same conversation, and web search still works during voice chats. Use hands-free mode in quiet settings for automatic detection, or push-to-talk in noisy environments for manual control. Voice conversations still count toward your plan's regular usage limits, and Team/Enterprise admins can disable voice mode organization-wide.
iOS only — Lock Screen, Control Center, Action Button, and Shortcuts
On iOS 18 or later, you can launch Claude directly from the Lock Screen, Control Center, or the side Action Button without opening the app first.
- Add to Lock Screen: long-press the Lock Screen to enter Customize Wallpaper, then choose "Open Claude" from the circular slot at the bottom.
- Add to Control Center: open Control Center, tap Add a Control, and search for "Open Claude." An "Analyze Photo with Claude" control can be added the same way.
- Set the Action Button: in the Settings app's Action Button menu, tap Choose a Control under Controls and select Claude. A long press on the side button now launches Claude directly.
You can also reach Claude by telling Siri "Ask Claude," or by selecting text in another app and sending it to Claude through the Share Sheet. In the Shortcuts app, you can chain a "Share" action with an "Ask Claude" action and a pre-written prompt (e.g., "summarize this text") to build your own custom shortcut. Requests sent through shortcuts and app intents use whatever model is set as default when you open the app.
Connecting Claude to your device's apps — Messages, Calendar, Maps, and health data
Beyond the chat window, Claude's mobile app can directly draft messages and emails, check your calendar, get directions, and analyze health data by connecting to other apps on your device.
The first time you use a feature, you'll see a permission prompt with "Allow Once," "Always Allow," or "Don't Allow." Grant only what you need, and change it later anytime under Settings > Claude. For example, saying "schedule a team meeting tomorrow at 3pm" has Claude create the event in your Calendar app, while "get directions to the place in this photo" opens your Maps app with a route.
| Feature | iOS | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Reminders integration | Available | Not available |
| Alarm/timer integration | Not available | Available via Clock app |

| Messages/Calendar actions in voice mode | Not supported | Not supported |
Common sticking points and fixes
- Tapping the widget does nothing — even if the widget shows up, it won't work if the app's microphone or camera permission is turned off. Check Claude's permissions in your device settings.
- I don't see Reminders integration — Reminders integration is iOS-only. Android doesn't offer the same feature; use Clock app integration for alarms instead.
- Health data analysis isn't available to me — this beta feature requires a Pro or Max plan, the US region, and (on Android) Android 14 or later, all at once. If any condition isn't met, it simply won't appear.
- Sign-up or login is blocked — in some US states, app store age-verification policy restricts sign-up and login for accounts under 18. If your age info is wrong, contact Apple Support (iOS) or Google Play Support (Android) directly, not Anthropic.
- Claude isn't in the Lock Screen or Action Button menu — these features require iOS 18 or later. Check your iOS version first under Settings > General > Software Update.
Next steps
At this point you can launch Claude instantly with widgets, talk to it hands-free, and use it to actually get things done through your device's other apps. From here, consider organizing recurring tasks with Claude's Projects feature, or pairing the mobile app with the desktop/web version to continue a conversation you started on your phone. If you still need to install Claude on another device, check the platform installation guide first.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I use Claude's mobile widget on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. On iOS, add it through Edit widgets on your Home Screen or Today View; on Android, long-press the home screen and add it from the Widgets menu. The specific buttons inside the widget differ between the two platforms, though.
Q. Should I use voice mode or dictation?
Use dictation if you just want to speak a short prompt instead of typing it, and voice mode if you want a real back-and-forth conversation with Claude. Dictation only converts speech to text, while voice mode is a genuine two-way spoken exchange.
Q. Does Android also integrate with a Reminders app?
No, Reminders integration is iOS-only. On Android, the closest equivalent is alarm/timer integration through the Clock app.
Q. Can anyone use health data integration?
No, it's currently a beta feature limited to Pro or Max plans in the US region, and on Android it also requires Android 14 or later plus Health Connect installed. The feature won't appear if any of these conditions aren't met.
