Connect Claude to Notion: Connector & MCP Setup Guide (2026)

Connect Claude to your Notion workspace with the official connector — setup steps, Notion MCP for Claude Code, real use cases, and troubleshooting.

The meeting notes, wikis, and tasks you keep in Notion can be read, searched, and even created by Claude. With Anthropic's official Notion connector, you connect Claude to Notion once and stop copy-pasting context into every chat. This guide covers how to connect, the Notion MCP option for Claude Code, real use cases, and how to fix it when the connection fails.

What you can do once connected

Per the official connector page, after connecting you can ask Claude in plain language to:

  • Search pages — "Find all project pages that mention 'ready for dev'"
  • Create pages — "Create a meeting notes page for today's standup with action items"
  • Update properties — "Change this task's status from 'In Progress' to 'Complete'"
  • Check connections — "Which Notion workspace am I currently connected to?"

Combined with Skills, this extends to workflows like meeting intelligence (gather context, enrich with research, write a pre-read and agenda back to Notion), research documentation, knowledge capture, and turning specs into tasks.

Method 1 — Built-in connector (claude.ai / Desktop app)

The easiest path; you do it on the Claude side.

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Open Browse connectors, find Notion, and click Connect.
  3. You are redirected to the Notion login page — sign in.
  4. Select the workspace Claude should access and approve permissions.
  5. Verify: ask Claude "Explain my Notion workspace." If it recognizes your real pages and databases, it is connected.

Per official docs, this is available on the Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Availability on the Free plan may change over time, so check in your claude.ai settings (uncertain).

Method 2 — Notion MCP (Claude Code / advanced users)

For deeper integration in Claude Code or the Desktop app, use Notion's remote MCP server.

  • MCP server URL: https://mcp.notion.com/mcp (official)
  • Claude Desktop: add it as a custom connector under Settings → Connectors (not by hand-editing a config file).
  • Claude Code: after adding, run /mcp and complete the OAuth flow. Use --scope to choose the install scope (local, project, or user).
  • Notion's official Claude Code plugin installs the MCP server, Skills, and slash commands in one click.

Good ways to use it

  • Meeting prep: gather context from Notion, enrich with research, and save a pre-read and agenda back to Notion
  • Research docs: search and synthesize multiple pages into a clean new page
  • Knowledge capture: turn decisions and insights from a chat into the right wiki or database entry
  • Spec to tasks: convert product or tech specs into Notion tasks Claude Code can implement

When it won't connect (troubleshooting)

  1. Re-authenticate: disconnect the connector and connect again to redo OAuth.
  2. Page / workspace permissions: confirm in Notion that the page is shared with the account you connected. MCP and connectors respect your existing Notion permissions.
  3. Company (Enterprise) workspace: an admin may have restricted external AI apps. Ask your Notion admin to approve it (Settings → Connections → Permissions → approved AI apps).
  4. Check your plan: confirm you are on a paid plan.

Good to know

  • Connectors read and write Notion inside a conversation you start — they do not fire automatically on events.
  • Claude only accesses what Notion permits (existing permissions are respected).
  • For sensitive workspaces, review your sharing scope before connecting.
